Yeni Foça (Foglia Nuova) is easily accessible from Izmir in just 30 minutes via the highway connection and has a coastal town where you can experience the deep soul of the Aegean. In history, as being deemed valuable enough by the Byzantines to be left as a legacy to the Republic of Genoa, Yeni Foça became a commercial hub in the Middle Ages due to its rich alum deposits and hosted people from both shores of the Aegean which makes Yeni Foça historically, culturally, and economically symbolic destination, awaiting you with all its richness!
Foça was declared as a Special Environmental Protection Area in 1990 to preserve its archaeological, architectural, and natural treasures. Currently, its streets are filled with historic Ottoman and Greek houses. As part of the conservation measures, constructing new buildings in most district areas is prohibited, allowing Yeni Foça to maintain its unique texture composed of historic houses.
The northern sections of the coastal road between Eski Foça (Old Foça) and Yeni Foça (New Foça), which boasts magnificent bays and offers impressive sea views, are under protection due to the value of the region’s flora and fauna.
