The Goran Schildt Regatta 2016!
“The Göran Schildt Memory Race was first sailed in 2010 and it was an immediate success. The offshore race is nowadays an annual event and it is included in the racing program of the Hellenic Sailing Federation/HSF that are members of ISAF.
Both the start and finish of the race is located in Lakki which is the biggest bay of Leros. The racing part of the regatta event is arranged in ORC Club and Open Class categories. The Offshore Sailing Race is cooperation between the Nautical Club of Leros, the Cultural Youth Association Artemis on Leros together with the Christine and Göran Schildt Foundation from Finland.” (Source: Villa Schildt).
The 2016 Regatta will begin on Monday September 12th at 18.00, with the skippers meeting at the Nautical Club of Leros facilities. At 20:00 Monday, the Opening Ceremony will take place at the Municipal Theatre in Lakki, with presentation of music and dances from all around Greece, in a magnificent event organized by the Cultural Association of Leros “Artemis”, with the presence of the Ambassador of Finland, the Representative of South Aegean Region and the Mayor of Leros.
On Tuesday September 13th, the race will begin with the first route of 20 nautical miles, from Leros to Patmos and will go on with two more routes, from Patmos to Lipsi and from Lipsi back to Leros on Wednesday 14th and Thursday 15th of September.
The Awards and Closing Ceremony, organized by Christina Schildt, will be held at the facilities of Nautical Club of Leros, on Thursday 15th of September, with musicians, artists, choirs and dance groups from Finland.
As every year, Leros Marina proudly supports the Regatta, not only by funding a part of the organization costs, but also by providing the participants with berths, free of charge.
