BAR, MONTENEGRO – September 2, 2025 – Yacht Agent Montenegro is delighted to announce a groundbreaking update to the country’s yachting regulations that will significantly benefit the global superyacht fleet. Effective immediately, the previous 72-hour minimum stay requirement for foreign-flagged private yachts seeking duty-free fuel has been officially lifted.
This pivotal change, a testament to Montenegro’s commitment to enhancing its position as a leading Mediterranean yachting hub, allows vessels to arrive, refuel, and depart seamlessly, offering unparalleled flexibility for captains and owners on a tight schedule.
“We are incredibly proud to see Montenegro adapt its policies to better serve the needs of the international yachting community,” said Dejan Janković, Head of Bunkering and Operations at Yacht Agent Montenegro. “The reinstatement of the duty-free fuel policy earlier this year was a huge step forward, but the removal of the 72-hour stay has made Montenegro an even more attractive and efficient bunkering destination. This change positions us as the Adriatic’s premier choice for cost-effective and timely refueling.”

Key Highlights of the Updated Policy:
- No Minimum Stay: The previous mandatory 72-hour stay is no longer required. Private and commercial yachts can now refuel and proceed with their journey without delay.
- Significant Cost Savings: Yachts can continue to benefit from the exemption of excise taxes on fuel, which can amount to substantial savings, making Montenegro a competitive alternative to other Mediterranean ports.
- Mandatory Agent Involvement: A licensed yacht agent is still required to manage all documentation and customs procedures for the duty-free transaction. This ensures a smooth, compliant, and hassle-free process for the captain and crew.
- Certified Refueling Locations: Duty-free fuel is available at the country’s main ports, including Porto Montenegro, Portonovi, and the Port of Bar.
Yacht Agent Montenegro is fully prepared to assist all vessels in navigating these new regulations. Our expert team is on standby to facilitate all aspects of the refueling process, from pre-arrival clearance and paperwork to on-site coordination and customs support.
This policy change marks a new era for Montenegro’s nautical tourism sector, reinforcing its reputation for world-class service, stunning natural beauty, and now, unbeatable operational efficiency.
